On September 29th 2017, Xplor Ryerson go the chance to attend the EDIT: Expo for Design, Innovation & Technology, an exhibition to learn and experience sustainable and innovative design solutions worldwide. As up and coming professionals, this exhibition gave us a lot of exposure as to what the future for design holds—from Smog Free Ring to Biomimicry to harvest both fish and plants to 3D Printed sculptures, we got to see it all. Through networking and listening to the various speakers and exhibitions, we not only learned about their projects but also their stories of how they created these ideas—ultimately, EDIT gave us hope and inspiration to create designs that are creative and sustainable to solve global problems.

Here are some testimonials from Xplor Ryerson members who got the opportunity to attend the EDIT Expo:

At EDIT expo I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to see all the different exhibits and startups. I learned a lot about accessibility and sustainability, what they are and why it is important to consider them when designing anything. –Kelly Kienapple, GCM Undergraduate Student

I gained new insight regarding design from attending the EDIT Expo. One key takeaway from the EDIT expo is that wrong theory proposed by Scott Dadich. He stated that to innovate design, one needs to create a design that fits the traditional rules but make one informed change to it that goes against those rules. –Lina Lin, GCM Undergraduate Student

Everything that was on display truly showcased how design, technology and innovation are shaping and improving our future. Using an abandoned Unilever Soap Factory as the event venue was genius as well and I loved the interactive booths! I can't wait to attend next year! –Aayushi Nema, GCM Undergraduate Student

EDIT Expo was a momentous experience, demonstrating opportunities for a greener, more sustainable future. EDIT exhibited revolutionary projects that were all achieved by using design and technology. To top it all off, key note speaker Scott Dadich shared his profound knowledge and experience about the industry, emphasizing on not being scared of making mistakes. He explains how mistakes can become a good thing, and therefore we shouldn’t fear imperfection for it might bring revolutionary results. –Adele St-Pierre, GCM Undergraduate Student

My experience at the edit expo was a great opportunity to witness other artists create with a creative and sustainable perspective presenting the future of being efficient with resources to consume. Moreover, this was a great eye opening experience and inspiring. –Nuran Keckia, GCM Undergraduate Student
